Dr. Elena Arsova
Title: Dr. Elena Arsova, trichologist
Name of Presentation:
PDO Scalp Threading, new and effective treatment in androgenetic alopecia
Presentation Description:
Scalp threading is a type of dermal needle therapy, and is defined as inserting thread into skin for the purpose of prolonged therapeutic stimulation. Threads are surgical sutures made from materials (like polydioxanone) used in surgery to close wounds. PDO (polydioxanone) threads are commonly used in aesthetic medicine and trichology.
Threads activate the anagen phase of the hair growth cycle and act on anagen development and maintenance of hair growth.
A single application of threads results in hair growth comparable to that achieved with consecutive applications of minoxidil. After 3 months, all patients have significant improvement in hair growth, in Global Photograph Improvement (40%-75%
average of 57%) , and in trichoscopic hair count increment (48-93 HFU/cm2
average of 67HFU/cm2).
Considering its long-lasting and proliferating potentials, Scalp Threading can be considered to be a good alternative for the treatment of patients with alopecia.

And the education with the WTS was the basis of the theory of Western methods of treatment. The numerous trainings and courses in PRP, microneedling, hair transplantation, threads etc. were important for learning the know-how of the hair treatments. Based on her knowledge, experience and continued education, Dr. Elena continuously implements new methods for hair regrowth and sets new medical protocols for the treatments. Dr.Elena is the first doctor in Europe that implemented Scalp Threading as a treatment for hair growth stimulation. Not only did she applied the method in hair restoration, but she also upgraded and advanced it. She has invented new techniques of performing the threading on the scalp, and created protocols for combining scalp threading with other treatment modalities. Her comprehensive treatment systems, result with 50 to 100% of hair regrowth in her patients. A dermatoscope traditionally consists of a magnifier (typically x10), a non-polarized light source, a transparent plate and a liquid medium between the instrument and the scalp. Modern dermatoscopes use polarized light instead of a liquid medium to eliminate skin surface reflections. Most studies on scalp dermoscopy have been done with magnifications ranging from 20 to 70X. Instruments can also be equipped with software to measure relevant trichological parameters. Trichoscopy has been utilized for the diagnosis of numerous hair loss disorders, including non-scarring alopecias, scarring alopecias and hair shaft disorders Its use also helps guide the clinician as to whether a biopsy is needed to confirm a diagnosis and where to perform the biopsy for the greatest yield.
